Since ancient times, humanity has thrived in social communities, and the observation and contemplation of human figures have never ceased. reimagines the human experience through the portraiture of artists. In the context of contemporary art, portraiture extends beyond the depiction of appearances to delve into the exploration of humanity, emotions, identity, and social relationships. The exhibition People Matter features six artists from diverse regions, generations, and cultural backgrounds: Carlos Marreiros (b.1957Macao), Konstantin Bessmertny (b. 1964Macao), Benjamin Kidder Hodges (b. 1977Richmond, Virginia), Crystal W.M. Chan (b. 1986Macao), Issei Suzukio (b. 2001Tokyo) and Jonni Cheatwood (b. 1986Los Angeles). The exhibition is curated by Artelli's curator, Pal LOK Chok. Together, they present over 20 works which showcase their unique creative concepts and narrative approaches, interpreting the essence of portraiture through the interplay of the artist, the painted figure and the constructed environment in the painting. As the new year begins, Artelli invites the audience to explore these portrait works, gaining insight into the artists' perspectives and continuing the endless imagination about the human experience.
