Yuya Hashizume’s “eyewater+” Macau Debut Exhibition Arrives at Artelli – ARTELLI

Artelli, the multi-dimensional art space, is pleased to present “eyewater+” solo exhibition by Yuya Hashizume from June 4 to July 17, 2024. This marks Hashizume’s debut exhibition in Macau, featuring his largest art installation to date. The exhibition is themed as “City Color”, emphasizing Hashizume’s exploration of Macau during his sojourn away from Japan. The distinctive cultural elements of Macau serve as inspirations for his artworks as featured in this exhibition.

In recent years, Hashizume has held numerous exhibitions overseas, guided by his creative principle of “experiencing each city and country firsthand”. In preparation for the “eyewater+” exhibition, he specifically visited Macau to fully immerse himself in the city’s unique cultural atmosphere. These experiences served as inspiration for vibrant colors featured in his artworks, resulting in the brand-new series themed around “City Color”. Based on Hashizume’s personal impressions of the locale, colors such as vermilion red, ink green, and yellow are his chosen color representations of Macau. His artworks vividly express his impressions of Macau, with the city’s cultural significance captured in colors and imagery.

“eyewater Animal” Sculpture

In this exhibition, Hashizume continues to feature his beloved cats, Morokoshi-san and Corn-san, into his compositions. He also introduces important animals from the Chinese culture, including the magpie and the giant panda. These rare species carry significant symbolic meaning, often associated with auspiciousness and good fortune. This series combines images of animals with tears, conveying reflections on life and emotions, delineating emotional resonance between the viewers and the artworks.

The “eyewater Animal” series is a global limited-edition sculpture collection inspired by the artist’s beloved cat, featuring three large-scale glass and steel sculptures inspired by the colors of Macau.
